Stitch Sorcery

I love a pair of new socks! Especially ones that I made for myself. It's been a while since I've posted a finished knit. The truth is it's been hard to find a good place to photograph them. I invested in a @vflatworld photo surface, and it was a game changer!

I still have so much to learn about photography and styling photos. I hope you enjoy seeing my progress along the way.

🧶 These socks were knit flat on a knitting machine and seamed up the side. Using a Silhouette Cameo, I was able to make my own punch card for the fair isle design.

I entered them in the Minnesota State Fair this year and won 3rd place! 🎡

If you are new to machine knitting, this will be great practice for using a punchcard reader, learning about slipped stitches, and using your needle positions to control patterning. A standard punchcard is used, however the pattern includes a diagram in case you need to punch a blank card.

Wovember Day 3, Breed: Did you know the Roslag sheep breed in Sweden is endangered? We often think of endangered animals like the panda (❤️ u 🐼!), but the Roslag sheep are struggling too. Thankfully, according to Wikipedia, the Swedish Peasant Sheep Association represents the interests of individuals breeding Roslag Sheep and is responsible for the breed's conservation. I have so much to learn before I start that sheep farm!

Last month I had the joy of designing what I'm calling the Sugar Plum Fade shawl for my mother-in-law. This is a #machineknit accessory using two colors of @bewoolenmn Sock.

The fade is accomplished with several fair isle patterns using standard punch cards and the end is finished off with a bit of fringe.

For years I've been inspired by @dreareneeknits fade patterns and I wanted to find a way to accomplish a similar effect on the machine. What do you think?
